What to expect
Making your appointment:
You do not need a GP or hospital referral to see an osteopath. You can contact the clinic by using the contact page or phone 07707 733915 to make an appointment. Once your appointment has been arranged, you will receive an emailing confirming this and providing you with some information you will need to know prior to attending the clinic.
Preparing for your appointment
During your appointment you may be asked to remove clothing, often to dress down into your underwear for a full postural assessment. If you feel uncomfortable you can bring some shorts/leggings with a sports bra/vest top. Part of the consultation includes a full medical and case history so it can be helpful to bring a list of any operations, surgery, investigations, scans or accidents that you have had during your lifetime along with a current list of any medications you are taking over the counter and prescribed (including any vitamins or supplements)
During your appointment
When you arrive for your appointment your osteopath will complete a full consultation for your first visit with you which includes taking some personal information, going through your existing condition that has prompted you to visit the clinic and your medical history. Following on from this you will be asked to remove clothing and dress down into your underwear for a examination to take place which can include active movement (this is where you will be asked to carry out movements to see if it causes you pain), passive movement (your osteopath will try moving your body to see if it causes you any pain), testing of muscles to determine it is safe to treat you. Once this has been carried out your osteopath will discuss the treatment options with you to ensure you are happy to proceed.
Your treatment
You will receive a treatment lasting around 20 minutes, the treatment will include the use of techniques such as soft tissue therapy, articulation, manipulation and cranial therapy. As osteopaths treat the whole body your osteopath may also discuss treating other areas which may be the underlying cause of your pain but not directly at the pain site.
Coming for future treatments
As you have received your first treatment, your osteopath will discuss with you the frequency and timing required in order to resolve the pain or condition that you have visited the clinic for. Your subsequent sessions will be 45 minutes in total.
